There are certain songs, like the ones that follow that you wish would never end. Once you find such a song, you can't just listen to it once. The beats, the riffs, the melody, and vocals can create an amalgamation that has a truly hypnotizing effect on the mind... leaving you wanting more as soon as it's over and resulting in complete contentment. In that moment in time at least, you're free from all cares or concerns of this life.
Young Liars released Colours recently, immediately followed by some fantastic remixes. Already a fan of Teen Daze's instrumentals, I was drawn to this one when I came across it in Spotify's new Discover feature. It has been in heavy rotation ever since, and could very well stand the test of time.
I first came across Bastille over a year ago when their cover of What Would You Do was featured on several music blogs that I like to frequent. I've listened to all of their original material since then, and I've yet to be disappointed. Lead singers can really make or break a band, and this one may have one of the most talented that I've ever had the pleasure to hear. That's no exaggeration, see for yourself.
With their recently released first full album, Capital Cities proved they aren't just a one-hit wonder. Going one step further, this band showed just how creative and inventive they can be with a song like Farrah Fawcett Hair. It's hard to explain, better to just listen to it... but I assure you "it's good shit".
While I had heard of them before, Joywave came out of nowhere with their latest release... a mixtape called 88888 that shows how much more developed and polished their sound has become. Tongues may be the best example, but I implore you to follow up with some of their other songs... you won't regret it!
This may have come out back in January, but I think it's worthy anchor for this short playlist that I've put together. MOTM is a band worth remembering, with a sound that is almost all their own. The message of their latest single is clear, listening to the ad-supported radio stations may be one of the worst ways to discover what exists in the expansive wide-world of music. Just because it's a popular single, doesn't make it worth listening to... in fact that same artist may have something better hidden on their album.
So try to be more discerning and open-minded and you'll thank yourself for it in the end! If you like any of these tracks, don't stop there... there's a lot more where that came from!
