Up & Coming Artists: The 1975

The 1975
It's only a matter of time before a band like The 1975 gets the same kind of attention and adoration it has already earned from the United Kingdom. The British natives certainly have what takes to appeal to a wide-ranging audience, as evidenced by what they've released so far.

While their debut album is expected to drop in September, their singles have been sufficient enough to gain quite a following in England.

Having previously performed and released material under various names including Talkhouse, The Slowdown, Bigsleep, and Drive Like I Do... the group settled on it's current name and released it's first of three EP's called Sex in January of 2012.

What began as a punk band, has since evolved into something that is more ethereal and synth pop-based with polished, soothing vocals that seem to mimic R&B. Lead singer Matthew Healy once cited the Talking Heads, Prince, My Bloody Valentine, Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, D'angelo and Sigur Ros as their primary influences.

An indication of their rising status is how they’ve been scheduled to open for the Rolling Stones in July. Rampant recognition won't be that far behind. Americans will soon realize just how irresistibly talented they are... as I said before, it's only a matter of time.
